Welcome to our discussion!

This blog was created to provide some reflection on other teachers and their experiences with implementing technology in their classroom. Please understand that without discussing some difficult questions it is difficult to move ahead with techniques that benefit our students.

An ICT activity from 'across the pond'

I have only 'surfed' this site a bit-but it looks like it might be informative.

2.1C-Safety for digital devices a comparison easy to understand.

The consequences of smoking are now clear and known, and as a society, we are able to make an informed decision to smoke or not. Similarly, digital users need to be aware of all the negative consequences of their digital actions before they “light up” any digital device.

The Evolution of Study Habits?!?

“If I’m studying to memorize,” my son told me, “I’m still usually chatting” — instant messaging, that is. “But it’s usually not real-time chatting. I’ll look up every once in a while and I’ll chat; I may have a movie going on in the background, but I’ll go for a movie I’ve already seen.”

A few MD's weigh in on the impact technology has on studying. Who better to look at, but the population who likely studies the most...med students.

What is your level of personal internet use?

The link above takes you to an article about some teachers in Utah who were using Social Networking sites.

“Technology is evolving and the law has not kept pace with that evolution,” he said. “The amount of gray area is growing every year.”

He said he hopes his district can develop a policy within the next year describing how teachers can use social networking in productive, responsible ways.

“These tools are here to stay,” Doty said, “whether people like it or not.”

This isn't necessarily a new issue, but it's worth a read.

Some Questions to consider...

How do we incorporate technology, engage the learner, and tie it into curriculum outcomes simultaneously?

How is it possible to be aware of and fully utilize the resources available on the internet?

Time!?! I thought technology was supposed to streamline tasks and make things easier.

How about access? I can never get the lab; when I do the internet is slow, and I don't have a smart-board. What now?

What activities involving technology truly engage students?

Can the use of technology motivate students to participate?
